Response latency as a function of brain stimulation variables.

چکیده
It has been demonstrated that electrical stimulation of certain brain structures in the cat (Delgado, Roberts, & Miller, 1954) and rat (Bower & Miller, 1959) produces an aversive effect; that is, the animal will perform an escape response which turns off stimulation to these sites. The present study reports the effects on escape behavior of rats of variations in certain parameters of brain stimulation, viz., current intensity, pulse duration, and pulse frequency of a square-wave stimulus. In the present situation, brain stimulation was turned on by E and the behavioral measure was the time that elapsed before a lever-press by 5 terminated the stimulus.

Age and Gender Effects On Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR)
Objectives: Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR) is a result of eight nerve and brain stem nuclei stimulation. Several factors may affect the latencies, interpeak latencies and amplitudes in ABR especially sex and age. In this study, age and sex influence on ABR were studied. Methods: This study was performed on 120 cases (60 males and 60 females) at Akhavan rehabilitation center of university...
متن کاملEffect of sensory deprivation and Locus Coeruleus (LC) electrical stimulation on the response properties of layer IV barrel cortex neurons in male rats
Introduction: Barrel cortex of rodents is responsible for sensory information processing from muzzle whiskers. Locus coeruleus (LC) as the main source of norepinephrine (NE) in the cortex, is effective on the sensory information processing. Methods: Rats were divided to 2 groups. One group underwent sensory deprivation (P4) and the other group served as control and did not undergo sensory d...
متن کاملPallidaldeep brain stimulation for the treatment of DYT6 dystonia: a case report and review of literature
Little is known about the results of pallidal deep brain stimulation (DBS) in DYT6 dystonia. This will be the first report of DYT6 dystonia treated with pallidal DBS from Iran. A 21 years old male patient with DYT6 dystonia underwent bilateral deep brain stimulation. The target of DBS was the sensorimotor region of the posteroventralglobuspallidusinternus (GPi). DBS parameters included an amp...
متن کاملEffects of Cortical and Peripheral Electrical Stimulation on Brain Activity in Individuals with Chronic Low Back Pain
Purpose: Neuroscience studies suggest that Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) is associated with central sensitization, and maladaptive reorganization of the brain; this introduced a new target for LBP treatment. Studies revealed that cortical and peripheral electrical stimulation can be beneficial in regulating brain neuronal activity. However, there is a scarcity of evidence to support the effects ...
متن کاملUsing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to explore brain function: cortical representations of language critical areas
Pre-operative determination of the dominant hemisphere for speech and speech associated sensory and motor regions has been of great interest for the neurological surgeons. This dilemma has been of at most importance, but difficult to achieve, requiring either invasive (Wada test) or non-invasive methods (Brain Mapping). In the present study we have employed functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging...

Magnetic brain stimulation used as a method of psychological interventions in the treatment of diseases. This method functions used in the treatment of clinical disorder such as speech and movement disorders caused by stroke, tinnitus, Parkinson's disease, nervous tics. Applications in the field of psychological therapy, it is possible to stimulate specific brain area involved in certain mental...
